I’ve been researching the Druids and the Celts and was intrigued by a reference that suggested they might have been influenced by the Samothrace Mysteries and the Phoenicians who they traded with. So I ordered a book called “The Great Gods of Samothrace and the Cult of the Little People” by Carl A. P. Ruck. It was just published a few years ago in 2017 and I felt it would contain the most modern information. I’m about half way through it but far enough to make a few generalizations.
The Samothrace Mysteries were pre-Hellenic Greece and lasted over a thousand years. They were very famous and many influential people took this initiation and it was very popular. It was also open to any gender, or class of people. Many wealthy parents sent their children there as a rite of passage into adulthood. So it was an event that could take place any time of the year without any special planning or studies. You just needed to show up and it was offered to you.
In general this initiation offered protection and safe passage through the storms and tempests of life and involved the partaking of a wine laced with a hallucinogen like LDS and a Bacchanalian event or sex orgy. That pretty much sums up the book and like almost all modern researchers there is no recognition of the spiritual, occult and metaphysical truth behind such initiations or what they really conferred upon their initiates. But this research does give important clues as I will attempt to show.
My own path in life has allowed me to travel both the mystical and magickal paths to their conclusions. I have permanently activated all seven possible astral bodies including my etheric body and function normally on all planes. The magickal path for me has been a tantric one and I know quite a bit from personal experience. This allows me some insight into these things that is not available to those researchers who rely exclusively upon logic and reason for materialistic solutions to all mysteries.
First, the Samothrace mysteries were Goddess related and led to the establishment of the Eleusinian and Dionysian mysteries which came later and were also wide spread throughout the ancient world. Being Goddess related they were undoubtedly led by Priestesses and sexual in nature.
The tantric path is natural for women and leads to the relatively easy and quick development of the etheric body which is the non-physical body generated by the root chakra. It is also the body which is the most magickal as it functions below physical awareness. So you have a group of women that are working with sexual energies in sacred mysteries on an almost constant basis. They undoubtedly all had very strong abilities to work all types of magick! And by this I mean real magick!
Etheric energies or root chakra energies:
Located at the base of the spine, the pelvic floor, and the first three vertebrae, the root chakra is responsible for your sense of safety and security on this earthly journey. Balancing the root chakra creates the solid foundation for opening the chakras above. Imagine that you’re laying the foundation for a house in which you’re going to live for a long time. A solid foundation embedded in firm soil will provide the stability you need to create a home filled with joy for years to come.The root chakra is comprised of whatever grounds you to stability in your life. This includes your basic needs such as food, water, shelter, and safety, as well as your more emotional needs such as letting go of fear. When these needs are met, you feel grounded and safe, and you tend to worry less day to day.
So this is what the Samothrace initiation did for initiates. It completely opened the root chakra center and permanently activated their etheric body! In doing this it did grant them safe passage through the storms and tempests of life!
Life was very hard in ancient days and people were much closer to the earth than they are today. So they probably already had many of the 32 possible awareness points already activated at the etheric level. They just needed an extra burst to make the final earth connection to the womb of life and these tantrikas were able to provide it for them.
In working with sexual orgasm energy two orgasms close together are enough to rupture the astral planes. What happened at Samothrace was much more powerful by using at least three orgasms in a group setting combined with an hallucinogen to completely burst through any barriers and a rebirth experience that permanently activated the initiate’s etheric body. From an occult perspective this meant lasting protection and the ability to do magick as well.

Very interesting research! I’ve actually had one extremely vivid dream I recall maybe 18-24 months ago. The imagery I’m getting of this post and this particular cult reminds me a lot of it. In my dream, it seemed as if there was a group of individuals having what seemed like tantric sex. It was like a sanctuary like space and the sex I was experiencing was non-physical yet extremely dense and pleasurable. Their were pillars surrounding the area and the clothing style brought me a sense of god and goddesses imagery in a type or sensual worship of the divine. I figured it was Egyptian but pre-Greece and their style also makes sense to me. I had this sensation of also almost floating and it seemed like a sexual trance. In this life, I have experimented with LSD and a few other substances in combination with tantric exploration. I might add the most memorable of experiences weren’t even from actual direct physical contact!
I’m doing this research because I apparently have some left over karma from my past lives as a druid and I know I have taken this Initiation of Samothrace! Just about all old souls would have taken it in the one thousand years it was around!
