The Higher Self and Shadow Self are secondary personalities that need to be integrated into the healthy human ego. The Higher Self contains personality traits that we desire but can never find within ourselves and the Shadow Self contains personality traits that we find within ourselves but reject and wish were not there. Both are distortions of reality and only by integrating these distortions can we achieve true spiritual, mental, emotional and all around well being.
