Governments only last as long as they hold supreme power over their own people. The will of the government is law! But what do laws amount to if no one obeys them? Why pass a law if it is not enforceable? For the government to enforce its will upon the people it is vital that the people are not allowed to have a will of their own! Anyone with a will of their own needs to be locked up or isolated in some way so that they are neutralized.
For the government to exist it needs to be master and citizens need to subject themselves to its power and submit. The government needs to be the ultimate external authority or it no longer governs!
Think about this, if a person needs to be surrounded by mindless zombies without wills of their own in order to feel important then it is the zombies that are important! Without the zombies that individual would be nothing at all!
For a person to have their own will and be self-directed is the most dangerous thing that any government can confront. Self will and the collective will of the government are deadly enemies because the existence of one tries to extinguish the existence of the other! It is almost impossible to find a win-win situation but we must still trie!
Let’s say that today I am in favor of a particular law but tomorrow I learn something or experience something that makes me change my mind about that law. The government maintains that I still need to be subservient to that law even if I no longer agree with it. I can’t change my mind! Because I was a fool yesterday, I need to be a fool for the rest of my life! Yesterday I had a will when I chose to support that law, but today I no longer have any will! It’s been taken away from me!
The only possible response is to recognize the still small voice of conscience and the Christ spirit that dwells within each individual heart as the supreme authority that we all can choose to follow. We cannot bind ourselves to the laws of external authorities or we will become slaves of those external authorities! Government needs to recognize individual rights as well as collective rights.
